First Communion preparation and celebration is open to registered SJA parish families beginning in second grade. Parents and children attend several meetings and workshops and complete the home study program together. Letters regarding First Communion information are mailed to households with second grade students registered in our Elementary Religious Education program in either January or February. Although First Communicants are not required to be registered in religious education classes, they must be members of St. Joan of Arc. Everyone receiving First Communion must be Baptized. If your child has NOT been Baptized, please notify Marie Bissonnette immediately as arrangements must be made for baptism before receiving First Communion. The children will sing three songs during the First Communion Mass. We want them to practice at home, so the music and words can be found HERE.
Households with second graders not attending SJA religious education classes or older children, whether or not they are registered in Faith Formation classes, need to notify the Parish Office of the desire to participate in the sacramental preparation program.
To learn more about the Sacrament of First Eucharist, please contact Marie Bissonnette, mbissonnette [at] stjoan.com (subject: First%20Communion) .
First Communion plans are currently on an indefinite hold due to COVID-19. If families want to prepare in order to be ready, they may work through the on-line lessons with their child at this link:
