Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA, is an important Sacrament designed for adults (called Candidates) who are interested in becoming Catholic, or for Catholics who wish to be Confirmed, and may also include the Rite of Baptism. Each candidate works with an individual sponsor who will walk with them through this unique faith journey.
RCIA is comprised of a cycle of classes from fall to spring, headed up by Fr. Jim DeBruycker and his RCIA team. Candidates, along with their sponsors and the RCIA team, build a learning relationship designed for inquiry and understanding. It’s a chance to learn what it means to be Catholic, to ask provocative questions, grow in faith, and to ultimately receive the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation.
RCIA meets bi-weekly on Wednesday evenings from fall through spring; weekly through Lent, with two Sunday morning commitments. The Sacraments of Initiation and Rite of Reception occur at Easter Vigil.
Are you interested in sponsoring an adult going through the RCIA process? You must be Catholic and have a willingness to share your own faith journey and the ability to listen and support the candidate.
