MICAH Service

MICAH Service

MICAH Service is an opportunity where youth in grades 6-12 are encouraged to serve once a month with an agency or organization that promotes Catholic Social Teaching. Youth sign up for a service site online after the program year orientation meeting in September. Youth are mentored and supervised by Service lead volunteers. MICAH typically happens on the Third Sunday of the month. Please indicate your first, second and third choice. Youth will have the opportunity to serve at one site per year.

"MASS" - Mass and Service Support
This for everyone! St. Joan of Arc welcomes over 1000 parishioners and visitors every Sunday morning. This is a sign-up for 6-12 graders to be greeters before SJA Gym Masses and serve cookies after the Mass in the Welcome Center. This can be done with a friend or family. Sign up sheets will be available at Small Groups.  You will work with our greeters and hospitality ministers to hand out bulletins, open doors, help people find seats, prepare and serve coffee, cookies, and juice. You will serve as a welcoming presence to our community!
Third Sunday of the month, 9am Mass or 11am Mass.

Dragonfly Sympathy Card Ministry
The kids color beautiful Dragonfly sympathy cards and send them to parishioners who have lost loved ones.  Youth can take cards home to send to personal friends and family they have lost as well. This group tours the Memorial Garden at SJA and has a visit from SJA Leaders who teach about Grief etiquette and a variety of related topics.  Here's the link to the Dragonfly non-profit.  You can open to read the story that is in each card.  Also a small Dragonfly keychain is sent with the cards.
Third Sunday of the month, 10:00-11:00pm.

Ronald McDonald House
By volunteering with Ronald McDonald House, you'll help with their Cooks for Kids meal program- creating a home away from home for families whose children have a life-threatening illness and need to stay near the hospital. A group of youth with parents goes to Ronald McDonald House one a month, the 3rd Sunday of the Month and prepares a meal for parents and kids staying there from all over the country.  The group determines the menu and meets at Ronald McDonald. You must be at least 14 years old to serve and be accompanied by one or both parents who will serve with you. Include the name of the adult(s) who will be accompanying you. Location: Ronald McDonald House – Meet at St. Joan of Arc and drive together.
Third Sunday of the month, 9:30am-1pm

Third Sunday of the month, 10:00-11:00pm.

Migrants and Borders: How to Welcome the Stranger
This is a new group this year led by SJA Welcome The Stranger group leaders Meghan Grossman and Rose Grengs. Rose is an Immigration attorney and Meghan is a teacher who had been a long time leaders of our Welcome The Stranger group at SJA.  They have both taken trips to the Border of the US and Mexico to understand the issues of what is really happening there.  This year, our vision is to start a Youth Group to learn about topics listed below.  The hope is the year will culminate in a trip to the Border in the Spring. More info on the trip coming soon.

Why do migrants come to the U.S.?
Refugee v. Asylum Seeker, What is the difference?
Should humanitarian aid be a crime?
History of the border
Tohono O'odham lands encroachment
Why do we have borders?
