A huge thank you to more than 600 St. Joan of Arc parishioners who recently completed the ISAIAH Core Team's congregational survey! This survey asked about our experiences with current realities like unemployment and foreclosures as well as disparities in health care and education. The 100+ metro area member congregations of ISAIAH are all completing this survey to give us a clearer picture of our people and the experiences we share, and will greatly impact our work for justice going forward.
On Sunday, our SJA ISAIAH Core Team reported the results of this survey. Disturbingly high numbers of parishioners reported the impacts of an increasingly unjust economy on themselves and loved ones. To give these results context, parishioner Sue Budd shared signs of growing economic injustice in Minnesota. Parishioners Greg King and Anna Lynn lead a discussion of Exodus 1:6-14 - the story of oppression of the Israelites by Pharaoh - and explored analogies between Pharaoh's Egypt and the empire we live in today. First person stories of experiences with the criminal justice system and the realities of living on minimum wage impacted us greatly.
One hour was not enough for the incredible discussion we shared, and we will continue it on Sunday, March 30th in the Parish Center following the 11:00a.m. Mass. Please join us!
