On a beautiful recent summer day, 65 SJAers boarded two buses to tour two recycling facilities here in the Twin Cities. Hosted by our SJA EcoSpirits and made possible by a grant from Hennepin County Green Partner Environmental Education Program, the day included a tour of the Recycling Center in Brooklyn Park and the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center in downtown Minneapolis (the two groups alternated sites). Lunch was at North Mississippi Regional Park and the day concluded with a reception at SJA.
This trip was a very powerful reminder to be more conscious of the garbage we create - 4 pounds of trash is produced by each American each day, and only one pound of that is recycled. We cannot continue to burn or bury our way to a solution!
Thanks to our organizers and leaders and to all who attended and brought such great energy and spirit to our day. We sustain and inspire one another in our commitment to a healthy earth!
