On November 15, over 80 people from around the Midwest gathered at SJA to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sister Parish, Inc. This is the organization that maintains and supports Sister Parish relationships between Southern and Northern Hemisphere faith communities, including our own 19 year relationship in Tierra Nueva Dos, Guatemala. We shared stories and sang, prayed and feasted – and most of all, we gave thanks for these relationships of solidarity and faith that mean so much to all of us and give us a glimpse of God’s kingdom, where justice and peace truly flourish.
We also viewed the premiere of the documentary “Generations in Solidarity: The Sister Parish Story.” Created by Jeff Nohner, SJA parishioner and Sister Parish, Inc. board member, this beautiful and powerful film explores the context in which Sister Parish was conceived and why it is just as relevant and necessary today. The film will be shown again at SJA on Wednesday, February 26 and all are welcome.
It was a wonderful evening and we are grateful to our SJA Sister Parish Committee for hosting this event. Happy Anniversary, Sister Parish!
