Saturday, March 22, 25 people gathered to celebrate 20 years of our Sister Parish relationship between St. Joan of Arc Church in Minneapolis and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Tierra Nueva Dos, Guatemala. During our day of retreat, we gave thanks for the vision of the leaders who began this powerful ministry; we heard the stories of those who were in attendance about the transformational impact this relationship has had on us and our congregations; and we looked to the future with great hope.
It was a beautiful day of prayer and music, reflection and good food - and a special ritual of anointing of our hands. We had a chance to connect with some of our family in Guatemala by phone, and we talked about our goals and dreams for this ministry.
Our Sister Parish relationship is one of journeying together in faith and friendship. It is a relationship of solidarity that crosses geographic, cultural, economic and language differences and unites us in the body of Christ. We are truly grateful.
