On Wednesday, January 18, a crowd filled SJA's Hospitality Hall, building on the momentum of our MLK weekend and our movement toward being an anti-racist church. We experienced a timeline of SJA, highlighting our history with racism and our history with anti-racism movements. And then we were treated to a conversation with longtime parishioner and neighborhood resident Alberta Johnson. Alberta personally experienced and helped to change a mindset of racism here at SJA, and collaborated with fellow parishioners in incredible local efforts including the merger of Field and Hale Schools and the racial integration of our neighborhood. We are so grateful to Alberta for sharing journey with us - her courage and her compassion are an inspiration and a challenge to us! Thanks to all who attended and shared your thoughts and experiences - we continue in our efforts to build relationships of justice within our parish and in our surrounding community.
