We, the Catholic Community of Saint Joan of Arc, stand in solidarity with our community in condeming the murder of George Floyd.
Our faith teaches us that God stands with the poor, the oppressed, and those on the margins of society. As Christians, we are called to do the same. For too long the sins of racism and white supremacy have plagued our country. This is played out in countless ways, both systemic and individual. The murder of Mr. Floyd is the most recent, egregious example.
We say: enough! We at Saint Joan of Arc are committed to building an anti-racist church, community, and country. We proclaim the dignity of all people, especially the lives of our black and brown sisters and brothers. We recognize that none of us are free until all of us are free. In our neighborhoods, none of us are safe until all of us are safe.
We demand justice for George Floyd, accountability on the part of the police, and change in a system that allowed this to happen.
