Nominations are open for new members to join the SJA Parish Council. The Parish Council is a visioning and planning body which is advisory to the Pastor in identifying opportunities, needs and concerns. The Parish Council helps to maintain the welcoming spirit of SJA and enable our community to grow and thrive. It works in collaboration with SJA leadership and staff in developing a Strategic Plan. You can download the nomination form here.
The major criteria for a parish council candidate is a parishioner who is enthusiastic about the future direction of the Parish and are willing to listen, to speak honestly, and to work toward consensus. Candidates should be registered members of SJA for at least two years.
Council members are expected to regularly attend a two-hour Council meeting once a month, on the first Thursday, and to serve as a liaison with an assigned ministry.
We invite you to nominate yourself or someone else by Friday, April 19. You can do so by completing a nomination form which is available in the back of the Gym or Church as well as in the Parish Center office. Self-nominations are welcomed. Completed forms should be sent to Parish Center, attention: Dennis Heaney. All nominees will be asked to attend a Night of Information about the work of the Council on Thursday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in Hospitality Hall. A formal Night of Discernment and election will be held on Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m. in Hospitality Hall. The commissioning of new Council members will take place at Mass on Saturday, June 15, and on Sunday, June 16.
If you have questions about the Council or the discernment process we encourage you to contact any current Parish Council member (listed on the SJA Web site). You can also contact Dennis Heaney (dheaney [at] stjoan.com) or 612-823-8205.
