You no doubt heard or read this week that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has updated their guidance on mask wearing in public areas. While the guidance specifically emphasized the importance of masks in schools, they also said that, with the overall increase in adult hospitalizations from the delta variant, they are recommending that adults, even those who are vaccinated, wear masks in public areas.
Based on this new CDC guidance, as well as the increase in hospitalizations in Minnesota, SJA is recommending that, beginning this weekend (July 31 and August 1), all who attend our weekend Masses wear masks. This is not a mandate but it is a suggestion made so that we can protect one another. We also ask anyone who is not vaccinated please to not attend Mass but, if you are going to, please wear a mask.
The CDC guidance said that, while vaccinations are proving to be very effective even some vaccinated people can get the virus in rare cases. While we know that most of us are enjoying life without masks, it is evident that they are still important. I strongly believe that each of us in the SJA community is committed to do everything we can to insure the health and safety of the entire community.
If you don’t have a mask, we will have them at the entrances to the church and the Welcome Center.
Thanks for your cooperation in this effort to keep SJA not just a welcoming place but also a safe place.
