Sundays 9:45 am and 11:45 am in the Church from September – Mid-May
Family Mass Newsletter
While parents attend the Liturgy of the Word in the Gym, children in grades one through six participate in religious education classes. After the homily in the Gym, parents join their children in the Church for the family-centered, joyful Family Mass where they receive the Gospel message in a variety of unique and creative ways. Parents and children participate in the many ministries that make Family Mass a true community event. Each week, children serve as readers, musicians, projectionists and sacristans; parents serve as Eucharist ministers; and families serve as hosts.
Integrating our Sunday Mass with religious education classes inspires young people to be excited about their spiritual lives and empowers families to carry these values into their daily lives. Family Mass includes weekly food collections for Sabathani Community Center, Advent and Lenten family programs and the Jesse Tree collection of holiday gifts. Twice annually, we gather together to volunteer with Feed My Starving Children. Other outreach includes the Calvary Church meal, an annual collection for Guatemalan families through Common Hope, postcards to senators on human rights issues, Easter eggs and care packets for Mobile Loaves and Fishes, letters to children in Iraq and children’s envelope donations for Heifer International. This unique liturgy is designed for children and their families, but welcomes all. Contact Family Liturgy Director Gabrielle Dane, gdane [at] stjoan.com, for more information or to volunteer.
