Family Mass Community
“St Joan's Family Mass is not like
anything else I have ever seen! We find love, fun, meaning, and comfort at
church. My son and I are touched in so many ways there, from our love of music
and all things theatrical to our desire to serve and learn about justice.
Family Mass is one of those non-negotiables like eating, sleeping, and exercising. It
just IS what we do on Sundays.”
–Amy Martel, parishioner
We have Family
Masses every Sunday at 9 am and 11 am in the Church from September – Mid-May.
Check out our weekly newsletter.
Our joyful Family Mass
is designed for families to worship together. Using image and word, music and
song we invite both children and adults into a meaningful engagement with their
spiritual lives.
Every week parents and
children participate in the many ministries that make Family Mass a true
community. Children serve as readers, musicians, and projectionists, and
families serve as hosts and petitioners. We also support a Children’s Choir.
Our Advent and Lent family programs include our Lenten project with In the
Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, which culminates in our Palm Sunday
play—a unique telling of Jesus’ Passion.
Family Mass inspires
young people to be excited about their spiritual lives and empowers families to
bring the gospel to the streets through a variety of outreach ministries, including:
- Food collections for Sabathani Community Center
- Children’s envelope donations for Heifer International
- Feed My Starving Children (2x/year)
- Lenten service evening to benefit local nonprofits
- Annual school supplies collection for Guatemalan families
- Holiday cards to migrant families
- Postcards to senators on human rights issues
- Mobile Loaves Twin Cities - Easter eggs, care packets, volunteering
- Jesse Tree collection of holiday gifts
Family Mass offers a
loving and inspiring sacred place to encounter God, engage with ideas of faith
and justice, and grow together in spirit and community. Contact Family Liturgy
