Lent and Holy Week 2021

There is always light...this year, in this extraordinary time in our personal lives, in the life of our faith community and in the life of our country, Lent comes again…challenging us to see the light of Christ and to be brave enough to be this light!  Poet, Amanda Gorman’s words will frame our Lenten journey at St. Joan of Arc this holy season. Our brother Jesus walks with us as we seek to see Christ in every human being…as we seek to become more human ourselves. This is our path to rising anew at Easter. Let’s journey together, even as we are physically apart.

Ash Wednesday – Feb. 17th: This beautiful Prayer Service will include music, scripture, poetry, remembrance of ashes and personal stories from three SJA parishioners who were challenged to “be the light.” Join us online.

Online Lenten Sundays – Feb. 21st through March 21st: Join our faith community on Sundays as we are challenged to see the light of the gospels and be that light in our world. Fr. Jim DeBruycker and Fr. Jim Cassidy are joined online each week by parishioner greeters, readers and the musical inspiration of our SJA musicians.

SJA Lenten Gatherings: Please stay tuned for registration info on our upcoming virtual Wednesday night gatherings during Lent, beginning Feb. 24. Each week, these gatherings will be facilitated to give you lots of time to reflect and connect with other members of our parish, and we hope to see you all. Register Here!

Mending Our Hearts Daily Meditation weekly discussion: Spend an hour on Friday afternoons working through the Lent booklet Mending Our Hearts. The booklets are available to pick up at the Parish Center during the week or you can order online from Twenty-Third Publications. Register Here!

Lenten Reconciliation Service – March 3rd: Our Prayer Partners will offer a virtual Lenten Reconciliation Service, a time for music and reflection as we journey through Lent. The service will be available at beginning March 3rd.

Online Family liturgies: Continue to worship as a family during Lent. Take a little time to pray, sing, and reflect together each week at a gospel-based service designed for the whole family. Please join us!

Holy Week Online Services
Palm Sunday – March 28th: This all virtual service will include a special, dramatic reading of the Passion of Jesus. Gospel singer, Robert Robinson joins the archival music of the SJA Choir as we begin Holy Week.
Holy Thursday – April 1st: Come celebrate the real presence of Jesus in our “Beloved Community” and in each of us. Online, we reach across the miles and commit ourselves to service in the work of peace and justice. “Christ has no body but ours!”
Holy Thursday Adoration – Take some quiet time in your own home to sit with beautiful images of Jesus life accompanied by the meditative music of guitarist, Dean Magraw.
Good Friday – April 2nd: A Contemporary Stations of the Cross will be read, prayed and sung and we journey with Jesus into the suffering of today’s world.  All are invited to light candles in their own homes as we meditate and pray together online.
Easter Sunday Online: Celebrate as best you can,  with our SJA community, apart..yet together in spirit,  the joy of Jesus, the light of the world, alive in us all!
